Welcome the Pause

A Conversation with Eve Enslow

As we enter the final days of 2025, as snow blankets the forest and ice covers the stream, I’m considering the pause that winter offers. In the spiritual tradition I study within, the month of January is a time for retreat. It’s a time where we turn inwards. We embrace stillness. We allow ourself to pause. I’m starting to think about that, and how to embrace more quiet as the calendar changes to 2026.

But before I move into that space of quiet, I wanted to introduce a fun new element to this newsletter:

The Stream Conversations!

Every now and then, I’m going invite someone into this space.

I’ve spent 20 years working as a journalist and interviewing people is one of my favorite pastimes.

Today, it’s my honor to introduce you to Eve Enslow—or Evie as her friends like to call her. I first met Evie three years ago, when she moved to Maine from Washington State. Evie is a Buddhist, like me, and it was a precious gift to have a veteran practitioner move to this area. She’s also a bit of a tech star.

Evie spent the first part of her career at Microsoft. She did some pretty revolutionary things while working there. Today, she coaches tech leaders on personal branding—how to create clarity about who they are and what they can offer the world.

I wanted to bring her in, to find out about how meditation impacts this part of her career.

In the 30-minute chat, we cover:

  • Why innovation is generosity

  • How brand begins on the inside—with a set of values and clarity on how we bring a positive impact to the world

  • When it feels like everything is in turmoil, what could remain the same?

  • Welcome the pause: Take moments in daily life, to connect back to your breath.

P.S. You can sign up for Evie’s LinkedIn newsletter here.
